It was odd how much Galen was enjoying his training these days. He had always worked hard at it before, doing his best to push himself to his limits and beyond to excel. But that sort of motivation was always due to the knowledge that failure meant death or worse. Vader would accept nothing less.

Now though he enjoyed it just for the pure joy of pushing himself because he could. Well, maybe he didn't enjoy training with the Force as much, just because it meant he got frustrated and frustration lead to the anger and anger lead to the Dark Side and that's what he was trying to avoid. It was almost ironic that trying to not use the Dark Side of the Force risked him falling into the Dark Side of the Force. The one thing that he had going for him though was that he wasn't trying to avoid being seduced by the Dark Side. He'd been there already and had no desire to return to it so in some ways it was probably easier for him to avoid than it was for most Jedi.

But the physical aspects of it? Just running and jumping and climbing? Galen was finding more and more that he loved it. He would happily spend all day running through a city or a forest, anything to keep moving and focus on nothing but the thrill of it. He could block out all his other worries and frustrations and just focus on moving. Days like that were rare but he did his best to take full advantage of them.

Today had been a day like that where he spend almost the entire day exploring the surrounding areas on a run. Evening found him returning to his quarters to shower off and just enjoy the clarity that he was feeling. Out of the shower he was feeling clean and refreshed so he pulled on a pair of pants and contemplated focusing on his studies with the Force. He really didn't want to do that though and hoped that something would come along to distract him.

For Rey

Training with Rey was one of Galen's favorite things to do. Using the Force had never been fun before, not like this. Yes there had been an element of pleasure when he had learned something new or accomplished a difficult task but it was rarely just because of a job well done. It was always tempered with the fact that he was glad it meant that Vader wasn't going to kill him.

Training with Rey wasn't like that at all. Mostly because Galen wasn't Vader and he was pretty sure that Rey knew he wasn't going to kill her if she failed. His strategy was more "let's try again" instead of threatening murder. It was, admittedly, a somewhat slower method but one that they both enjoyed. At times they were both learning together, exploring new areas of the Force that Galen's teachings hadn't really touched on, which was basically everything non-combat related.

Today though they were working on combat skills. Specifically they were working on defense. Rey had picked up everything he'd taught her quickly and as much as Galen would have liked to say that was because he was a talented teacher he knew that she was just innately gifted. Enough so that he didn't feel bad about surprising her now and then.

Once Rey had blindfolded herself, and Galen was satisfied that she really couldn't see, he stepped back from her and studied her. She was definitely ready for this, there was no reason for him to be worried or hesitate. That would be unfair to Rey and how hard she worked.

"So. The object of this lesson is... don't die," he said before pulling out a blaster and firing it at her.

Luke was gone. He'd been gone for a while now but for some reason Galen had been hoping that Luke would come back. He told himself that it was because Rey needed to Luke to teacher her but that was only part of it. Mara could train Jade if it came to that. The truth was that Galen had liked the Jedi and this place wouldn't be as pleasant now that Luke was gone.

Galen wasn't sure what to do with that, how to process it. He'd never really missed anyone like that before. The closest thing he had was losing Proxy and even that was different. That had been worse and at the time he'd had the Dark Side to help him channel all his anger and rage. This was new.

So he headed to the Millennium Falcon to see Rey. He didn't know if she would be able to help him understand how he felt or what to do but he did know that things always felt better when he was around Rey. At the very least seeing her would cheer him up a little.

Sometimes there wasn't any need to let the Force guide him to find ways to help. Not that Galen was looking for ways to help people. He'd actually been trying to find a way out of Darrow when he'd come across the girl leaving the warehouse. He was up on a nearby rooftop when he'd seen the group of men that were closing in on her. They'd actually changed directions from where they were walking once they saw her and from the way they held themselves at least two were armed and all of them seemed on edge. He could practically feel the aggression coming from them.

Leaping from one rooftop to the next Galen jumped down and landed between the group of men and the girl, who hadn't even seemed to have noticed the men behind her.

"What the fuck!" one of thugs shouted, pulling out a pistol. With a snap-hiss Galen's lightsaber was out and sliced the gun in half just past the man's hand.

Another one pulled out a gun as well and fired of several shot. Galen held his hand up and wrapped the bullets in the Force, slowing them to a stop before letting them drop to the ground. Another use of the Force sent the gun flying away, the man staring at his hand with eyes wide.

"Go," Galen barked, waving his hand at the group. Three of them took off immediately, probably not needing the nudge of the Force that he gave them. The rest that stayed he just picked up and threw down the street. He didn't want to bother with this, didn't trust himself not to just cut them all down where they stood. That seemed to be enough to convince the rest of them that they should leave as they scrambled to their feet and took off running.

Reaching out he pulled the gun that he'd thrown out of the hand of the attacker and grabbed it out of the air. Turning it over he inspected it.

"Not a blaster, but not bad."
